In some situations, you might find QuickBooks data is gone after update. For data recovery, you must use the Auto Data recovery tool. The tool also helps to recover any missing transactions and other business data:

Solution 1: Recover Recent Transactions Using the original .TLG file with .QBW.adr file

To recover all the recent transactions, try using the original Transaction Log file and the ADR version of the company file. 

  1. Create a new folder named QBTest on your desktop.
  2. Locate your company file. 
  3. In the saved company file, open the folder.
  4. To find the location, press F2 or Ctrl+1 for the Product Information screen and the No Company Open Window.
  5. Find the .tlg file in your company file's folder.
  6. Open File Explorer (press Windows+E).
  7. Select Organize > Folder and search options.
  8. Uncheck Hide extensions for known file types.
  9. Click Apply, then OK.
  10. Copy the .tlg file to the QBTest folder on your Desktop.
  11. Open the QuickBooksAutoDataRecovery folder in the exact location of your company file.
  12. Copy the .QBW.adr file to the QBTest folder. You should now have the .QBW.adr and .tlg files in the QBTest folder.
  13. Rename the .QBW.adr file.
  14. Right-click and select Rename.
  15. Remove the .adr extension.
  16. Open QuickBooks. 
  17. Open the company file saved in the QBTest folder. Use your account register to verify all transactions are present.
  18. Select File > Utilities > Verify Data to check the integrity of the recovered file.

Solution 2: Recover recent transactions using .QBW.adr and .TLG.adr files

This solution will use the ADR versions of both the .QBW and .TLG files, which should recover all transactions except for the last 12 hours.

  1. Create a new folder named QBTest on your desktop.
  2. Locate your company file folder.
  3. In the saved company file, open the folder.
  4. In the folder, find the QuickBooksAutoDataRecovery folder.
  5. Press F2 or Ctrl+1 to find the location on the Product Information screen and the No Company Open Window.
  6. Find the .TLG.adr and .QBW.adr files. 
  7. If extensions are hidden, show them by
  8. Opening File Explorer (press Windows+E).
  9. Selecting Organize > Folder and search options.
  10. Unchecking Hide extensions for known file types.
  11. Clicking Apply, then OK.
  12.  In the QBTest folder, copy the .TLG.adr and .QBW.adr.
  13. Rename the files by removing the .adr extension from the end of the file names, resulting in .qbw and .tlg files in the QBTest folder.
  14. Open QuickBooks and the company file in the QBTest folder.
  15. You can then verify data by selecting File > Utilities > Verify Data to check the integrity of the recovered file.
  16. Verify that the recovered file is suitable.
  17. Transfer the damaged company file to different locations and transfer the recovered copy from QBTest to the original location.
